Celebrate Summer
Ready or not, here it comes - and it’s worth celebrating! Let’s unpack some FUN and creative ways YOU can welcome Summer’s arrival.
GO BIG DAY ONE! That’s right - make the last day of school the kickoff to your summer. Your kids will be riding that high of movie-watching, locker-cleaning, and school supply trashing, so why not let the car, front door, or backyard keep it going?!
🚗Car / If your kid is a car-rider let their chariot kickoff the summer celebrations. Shoe polish the windows, add foil fringe to the car doors, hang balloons from the antenna and crank the kid-tunes with a summer-mobile OR decorate the inside if ‘embarrassment’ is a line you fear crossing (although, kids will have all summer to forget so-in-so’s mom’s balloon covered mini van if you ask us 😉.) Bring that battery powered disco light, buy a package of Hawaiian leis from the dollar store, have the car ready with a summer lemonade or milk shake and party on!
🚪Door / Let the party take you home or start the party AT home with giant posters welcoming summer, flamingos in the yard, and a basket, box, or table full of sparkly new summer essentials welcoming them at the door (or in the door entry if your neighbors might confuse your private gift as public distribution.) You’re going to need to restock the pool floats, goggles, water balloons, and summer snacks anyway - why not do it now and present it in a fun way?!
🏕️Backyard / If your backyard is the oasis your kids will spend their summer - make it READY for them. Have the pool cleaned and ready, the karaoke machine prepped, the grill fired up, and new bathing suits and beach towels on display. Nothing says ‘congrats on a great year’ than a backyard with summer spread from fence to fence.
SPRINKLE FUN ALL SUMMER LONG! Curate your summer to fit you and your child’s favorite things. Does your child love movies? Perfect! Pick a movie each week and plan fun themed activities each day leading up to or following movie night! Animal themes, color themes, sports themes - think of your kids’ favorites and spread some fun all summer long. How? Try these!
🖌️Art / Incorporate art into your theme! Use different mediums each week and encourage your child to create something. Dry clay, pencils, watercolor, beading, origami - the sky is the limit! If you’re movie-loving child wants to watch Moana week one - try sand art, water color paint, or shell painting! Having a Italy-themed week - make pasta necklaces or build towers with spaghetti noodles! Be creative - or more importantly - let THEM be!
📚Book / Be sneaky with educational elements! A trip to the library can get you all out of the house, out of the sun (or rainy day), AND can fit the theme you choose! Watching Charlotte’s Web that week? Check out the book and challenge them to read a little every day before watching the movie (then really nerd out and discuss the differences they noticed between the movie and book afterwards!👓) Having a baseball themed week? Check out some autobiographies or world record books.
⚽Play / Even your play can correspond! If a Star Wars Marathon is coming, a daily pool noodle/light saber duel may need to be incorporated to your pool time, or add a balloon and have light saber training to get them on their feet with their curated fun in mind. Create themed obstacle courses or puppet shows - whatever you choose - let them play with purpose!
Make the start of summer a core memory for your kids. They did a big thing, they completed a big year, and as much as adults enjoy R&R the tiny humans in our lives do too. While their worries may be different from ours, they too have had full days, hard days, challenges, and crave peace. Find ways to celebrate them, congratulate them, and encourage them to rest and ENJOY their childhood! If we can help your brainstorm or even set the stage FOR you, contact us today. Let’s get your summer started by CELEBRATING!☀️🥳Afterall, they’ll be “bored” in no time. LOL!
